PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a melanocortin receptor agonist with improved selectivity for MC4R over MC1R compared with Melanotan II, reducing the melanogenic side effect while preserving effects on sexual response pathways. It is FDA-approved under the brand name Vyleesi for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women. Administered subcutaneously via auto-injector, it has a half-life of approximately 2 hours. Common side effects include nausea, flushing, and transient blood pressure elevation.
