Cagrilintide is a long-acting amylin analog being studied for weight management, often paired with semaglutide (CagriSema). Investigational; not FDA-approved. Subcutaneous injection.
Mechanism
A long-acting amylin receptor agonist (amylin analog). In research, amylin signaling is associated with slowed gastric emptying and increased satiety, complementary to GLP-1 pathways.
Research summary
Investigational and not FDA-approved as a standalone therapy. It has been studied for weight management, including in combination with semaglutide (the combination studied under the name CagriSema). Phase 2 and phase 3 evaluation has been reported in the literature.
Reported side effects
Gastrointestinal effects (nausea, vomiting) are the most commonly reported in trials, consistent with the amylin/incretin class. The full safety profile continues to be characterized in ongoing trials.
