It has been studied predominantly in animal models for its purported angiogenic and tissue-healing properties. The proposed mechanism involves modulation of the nitric oxide (NO) pathway, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signalling, and tendon fibroblast activity. Its short half-life of approximately 4 hours reflects rapid enzymatic degradation in plasma. While human clinical data remain limited, BPC-157 is among the most commonly discussed peptides in biohacking communities. Anyone choosing to experiment with BPC-157 should maintain a detailed log of dosage, injection site, and any observed effects or side effects to facilitate informed discussions with their healthcare provider.
Mechanism
A synthetic peptide sequence derived from a gastric protective protein. In animal models it has been associated with angiogenic and growth-factor modulating activity; the mechanism in humans is not well characterized.
Research summary
Most published evidence is preclinical (rodent) work on tissue repair and gastrointestinal protection. It is not FDA-approved, and rigorous human clinical trial data are limited. Claims should be read against that evidence gap. In July 2026 an FDA advisory committee (the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee) voted to recommend this compound for the 503A bulk-compounding list. That recommendation is non-binding and is not FDA approval — it would still require formal rulemaking, and no approved clinical evidence of safety or efficacy exists.
